Team members were asked:

What this experience means for them, what they have gained from being a part of NYAN, what they are looking forward to for the future of NYAN, etc.

Ricky
"Through being on NYAN, I have learned how to work together with people to incorporate as many ideas as possible to improve and create the best final product."

Owen
"The experience of being apart of NYAN gives me insight into a potential career for myself. The aspects of engineering that are involved with NYAN have intrigued me from the start, and I know that they will lead me to a successful future in STEM."

Jake
"NYAN has given me the opportunity to build on the things I’ve learned at Carmel by applying them to real world technology."

Joey
"To me, NYAN is a way to see how I would do in the workforce before I actually join the workforce. Because we function how I imagine a real company would function (separate departments, a budget, a product), we learn how to effectively manage all of our tasks while staying within our budget. If something doesn't work how we like it, we have a deadline we have to fix it by and if we don't, we don't move on. I also like to see the response we get from other students or judges. People are shocked when they see what a few kids can do when you give us a bit of money and some time."

Matt
"To me NYAN is an opportunity. An opportunity to do something I enjoy. An opportunity to solve real problems that will be present in the real world of engineering. It solidified my desire to become an engineer. It has made me skilled in multiple disciplines and has taught me the value of teamwork. NYAN is to thank for all of it."

Allen
"NYAN has helped me gain more experience in one year than all my previous years combined."

Debbie
"I started coaching NYAN as a way to spend more quality time with my kids. I had no idea I would have dozens of teenagers spending most of their days in my basement. I have gotten to share my love of engineering with not only our team members, but also lots of other young people through outreach. It keeps them out of trouble!"

Brian
"NYAN is a means with which to foster and nurture STEM-related talents or desires toward a common goal that is both significant and fun, and relevant to member’s careers and to Carmel's initiatives. I have enjoyed sharing one of my passions, and watching others thrive and grow."

Zakir
"NYAN Robotics has greatly helped me advance my knowledge of the real world. This team has taught me, not only how to work with others in a learning environment, but also the fundamentals that are necessary for my future as an engineer. My experiences have let me understand the things necessary when working with the basic technology, parts, strategy, skills, and communication. I believe that the lessons that I have learned here will stick with me for my entire life."

Peter
"For me, NYAN it's a place where I can be myself. It's a place where I have the time and resources to work in what interests me and the support of those around me to work on it."

Andrew
"Through NYAN and FTC as a whole I've gained knowledge, friends, and a sense of community. My friends on the team have made the experience great and meeting and becoming friends with people all over the country has only sweetened the deal."

Brendan
"Being a part of NYAN has given me the chance to experience what engineering is like, and gaining hands-on experience. I've gained so much experience mechanically, in programming, marketing, and critical thinking. I get scholarships for being a part of this as well from the engineering schools in the area. I'm looking forward to going to college for engineering, and this experience will help me get into those colleges and beyond."

Tommy
"Team NYAN gives me a chance to work with others and learn how to use our resources to build a complex robot from the ground up. I have gained the knowledge to build an app, design and program a robot, public speak, and much more. In the future I look forward to seeing our team continue to grow and spread its knowledge to more people in our school and community."
